Short Bursts of Exercise Boost Brain Function in Older Adults

A groundbreaking study has revealed that brief sessions of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity can significantly enhance cognitive performance in older adults. Researchers at the University of California, San Diego found that just 10 minutes of exercise can lead to immediate improvements in processing speed and executive function.

The study, published in the journal Nature Aging, utilized activity trackers and cognitive tests to monitor participants over a 7-day period. Results showed that engaging in short bursts of exercise throughout the day had a cumulative positive effect on brain function.

Dr. Raeanne Moore, the study’s lead author, emphasized the importance of these findings for maintaining cognitive health in aging populations. “Our research suggests that integrating brief exercise sessions into daily routines could be a practical and effective strategy for cognitive enhancement,” she stated.

This discovery opens new avenues for developing targeted interventions to support brain health in older adults.
