In a groundbreaking study, researchers have discovered that just five minutes of exercise daily could significantly lower blood pressure. The research, conducted by the ProPASS Consortium and published in Circulation, suggests that short bursts of intense activity like uphill walking or stair-climbing can have a measurable impact on cardiovascular health.
Led by experts from the University of Sydney and University College London, the study analyzed data from nearly 15,000 participants across five countries. The findings indicate that replacing sedentary behavior with 20-27 minutes of exercise per day could potentially reduce cardiovascular disease risk by up to 28% at a population level.
Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis, Director of the ProPASS Consortium, emphasized the accessibility of this approach to tackling [hypertension], a condition affecting 1.28 billion adults worldwide. This research offers hope for a simple yet effective strategy in the global fight against high blood pressure.
