Congress Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Regulate Kratom Nationwide

In a significant legislative move, bipartisan lawmakers in Congress have introduced a new bill aimed at regulating kratom products across the United States.

The bill, known as the Kratom Consumer Protection Act, is expected to garner support from both sides of the aisle. Sponsored by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and expected to be co-sponsored by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), the bill aims to ensure consumer access to safe kratom products that are properly manufactured and labeled. Mac Haddow, a senior fellow on public policy for the American Kratom Association, emphasized the importance of protecting consumers from an unregulated kratom marketplace where adulteration is frequent. The bill also stipulates that the FDA would be required to evaluate the health and safety of kratom and would prohibit the agency from imposing regulations more restrictive than those for food or dietary supplements.
