Natural Alternative to Ozempic Shows Promise in Animal Studies

Scientists at Stanford Medicine have discovered a naturally occurring molecule that could rival the popular weight-loss drug Ozempic. The peptide, called BRP, suppressed appetite and reduced body weight in mice and minipigs without the side effects associated with semaglutide-based drugs.

In a 14-day study, obese mice treated with BRP lost an average of 3 grams, primarily from fat loss, while control mice gained weight. The treated animals also showed improved glucose and insulin tolerance.

“Nothing we’ve tested before has compared to the dramatic effects of this molecule,” said Dr. Katrin Svensson, lead researcher. BRP appears to act specifically in the hypothalamus, potentially offering a more targeted approach to weight reduction.

While human trials are still pending, this discovery could lead to a natural alternative for those seeking weight management solutions.
