I didn’t start exercising until my mid-twenties. I’m plus size and wasn’t athletic in school, and I’d never found a sport I liked. Honestly, it just always felt like such a chore. I’d also previously used exercise only to punish myself, desperately trying to shrink my body. Eventually, I just gave exercise up altogether in youthful defiance.
Once I finished school and didn’t have to attend P.E classes anymore, that was the end of my relationship with exercise. Besides incidental walking, that was about it! Then I was hit with the combination of working in an unfulfilling job and going through a painful breakup. My mental health took a dive.
