A recent study highlighted in The New York Times suggests that evening might be the most beneficial time of day to exercise, especially for those who are overweight. Conducted by Australian researchers, the study analyzed the exercise habits of 30,000 middle-aged individuals with obesity and found that those who worked out in the evening were 28 percent less likely to die from any cause compared to morning or afternoon exercisers.
Lead researcher Angelo Sabag, an exercise physiologist at the University of Sydney, expressed surprise at the significant risk reduction associated with evening workouts. However, Juleen Zierath, a physiologist from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, cautions that the field is still evolving. “It’s an emerging area of research,” she stated, underscoring the ongoing nature of these studies.
While the debate on the optimal time for exercise continues, personal preferences, fitness goals, and work schedules still play a crucial role in deciding when to hit the gym.
