New State Health Laws in Effect; Kratom Regulation in Limbo Due to Funding Issues

As of July 15, several new health laws have taken effect in Kentucky, addressing issues ranging from maternal health to allergy medication access. Among these, House Bill 293 seeks to regulate kratom, an herbal supplement often sold online and in convenience stores. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Kim Moser, prohibits sales to individuals under 21 and sets guidelines for manufacturing and labeling.

However, Governor Andy Beshear has indicated that a lack of funding leaves the implementation of this law uncertain. In an April letter to legislators, Beshear listed HB 293 among 22 laws facing financial hurdles, effectively putting kratom regulation in limbo.
